The mag was completely cleaned, new points, rotor, condensor, coil, and cap were installed. I still don't have a very hot spark, what else can I do? I have had good luck up till now with mags. How far should the spark jump?

Jon, make sure your using steel plug wires and not resistor type wires, it will make a difference

Jon, depends on what you mean by "hot spark". Mags aren't noted for a real intense spark. The X is usually pretty good about a sufficient spark. About all you have left is to have the rotor re-magnetized, but that usually isn't a big problem on the X. Roberts Carb. can re-magnetize it for you at a very reasonable cost + shipping. Make sure all the rust is removed from the rotor & core & that all wires are in good shape with clean connections.

What I meant by HOT would be in reference to a pulling mag sold by robert's. I realize a stock mag can't live up to that, do you know what those mags contain versus a stock X mag? They are pretty expensive. Thanks for helping with the other question

Jon, as far as I know a higher output rotor & a higher KV coil, & they only fire on the compression stroke (ie, every other stroke as opposed to every stroke on a stock mag). I am not a puller so can't attest to their effectiveness. It probably won't help a stock engine any though.
