what kind of battery should i get i was thinking maybe a deep cycle because it would last longer because the thing eats batteries like a ford eats oil. i was told the deep cycle can handle being completly discharged and still be good but a standard battery wont stand up to that very well.

Andy, John T explained why a deep cycle battery isn't the best choice. Why is your G eating batteries? If it is due to running the battery down between uses then you will have to find the problem such as a short to ground, alternator installed (has diodes) or other reason for battery run down. If there is a valid reason you are getting a run down between uses then a deep cycle battery might be a good choice as they can be depleted many many times & still give good battery life (a conventional starting battery will usually give way less than 150 deep cycles without failing) In that case you might look into a "marine deep cycle starting battery" as that type of battery has good starting CCA & good deep cycle ability & will usually give years of service...If your battery is going belly up due to hard use & vibration then look into a "tractor battery" as they use different plate attachment & plate shock load isolation for off road & tractor use. In most cases the expense of using a tractor battery or marine type of battery has to be weighed against the low initial cost of an automotive type battery as those batteries are usually much less costly & can be replaced yearly & still be less costly.

Andy, I would NOT use a deep cycle battery in a high load starting application. Those batteries are designed for boat trolling motors and RV type deep discharge use as compared to tractor use where a high starting curtrent demand is needed. They areent as good for a high initial load liek that G pulls when she starts. Use the highest amp hr rated and/or cold crank rated that will fit in teh box and good over size heavy gauge battery and ground cables. Ol John T Engineer in Indiana
