Sediment bowl...

I recently emptied the sediment bowl on my B (as of a few minutes ago) and noticed when I put it back on that it dripped to fill. I don't think that'd right so I pulled the bowl back off and cleaned the screen (which really wasn't clogged) then I opened the valve and gas poured pretty easily... So my question is do I have a problem that it is only dripping or no? If I do have a problem... how do I go about fixing it? Pretty much my B hasn't been starting easily and I've been looking for a culprit.

Thanks,

Karl

Your'e probably ok but if its apart again and the tank is near empty you may pull the whole assy and flush the tank. They sometimes have leaves and debris which periodicly drift over the intake hole. To make it fill after you have been apart just loosen the drain at the bottom of the carb bowl and it will fill right up as well as flush the bowl which is a good idea once in a while. These things are simple but can be a pain. If problems persist and you are using the thing daily like I do you might well want to just change the whole filter. It sounds strange but someone told me that and it was the best $20 I spent all year . My 230 Farmall would always run a minute or two then stall and start right up and do it all again finally running ok till it happened again. Changing that bowl stopped it just like the guys said, who knows why. Good luck.

Think about it, if the carburetor is full and the sediment bowl is tight enough not to leak how will gas fill the bowl? Very slowly. Later, Gene

I did think about that... but I also thought... what's the job of the carb? To mix the gas with air? Sorry. I don't know tractors that well and this is my first restoration project... no idea what to look for, hence the question.

It may be that you need a vented gas cap. My 430 has a vent tube on top of the tank. You might try removing the gas cap and see if fills faster. Also you might have to unscrew the sediment bowl housing from the tank, and clean out the tank or the top of sediment bowl housing.

I have the same thing on my 43B. I usually loosen the bowl so it fills faster. When it gets close to being full I tighten it. I have not had any problems running. Hope someone can help.
Oh, it is a aftermarket bowl.
