neighbors 435 fuel pump is locked up solid. Took it off of the tractor, took it all apart and still no luck at turning the shaft in the housing.
Put it in the press and tried to press the shaft out but was afraid to put any more pressure on it. Any suggestions?

Was wondering what the required fuel pressure might be for this tractor and just replacing it with an electric one.

Thanks

George

Your mechanical fuel pump is junk. Those pumps have very fine tolerances. Yes, an "automotive" LOW pressure (7 lbs.) electric fuel pump (Carter rotary) will work just fine. Do NOT use a high pressure/high volume pump. High pressure and volume could push the fuel rack open causing a run-away motor. The mechanical fuel pump seized up on the 3-53 Detroit diesel in my Insley crane. I replaced it with the above. One advantage: The electric fuel pump sends fuel to the rack immediately when it's turned on, so starting the Detroit is fast. However, if the 435 is going to be restored in the near future, get the original mechanical pump. Get a good one from a salvage yard or a new one from a Detroit Diesel dealer. Roger

You might want to check the tank and fuel filters for water, since the pump is fuel lubricated you wouldn't want to tie up the new pump or have an injector stick and overrev the engine.

They require about 60 lbs of pressure , would be as cheap to order a rebuilt unit from a detriot dealer I think a good electric pump costs around 50$ I would go with an original.

A rebuilt Detroit pump is pretty cheap, I think mine was about $50 a year ago. Any big truck repair company should be able to help you out.
