I've been trying to put my flywheel on my 1947 Long-hood B. I've takin it off and put it back on 4 or 5 times, each time cleaning a little more crud or doing a little filing. It gets to about a quarter of the way to go and then stops. My dad and I have been using a sludge hammer to try to get it on. I'm 14 years old and this is my first tractor to restore. Thank you for any help.

First clean every thing as good as possible. Put a 1 gallon baggie full of ice on the shaft for about 1/2 hr. Drive an old screw driver in the slot on each side of the fly wheel hole ,close to the center as possible. then give it a try. If that doesn't work then repeat the same but add some heat to the fly wheel center. The shaft will shrink and the hole will get bigger, Atleast till they meet. So move quickly.
This hot and cold thing works some times.

Ryan, it has to go on a certain way. Are you sure you have it timed right. One spline is a little deeper or wider, I can`t remember which. There also could be marks on the shaft and flywheel that have to be lined up. Also the thrust washer behind the flywheel has a slot in it for the driver tang on the back of the flywheel to slid into. If everthing is right it should bump on fairly easy. Hope this helps you.

Lloyd,
Everything is linded up right. But it still doesn't go on it gets to about a 1/4 on an inch left and then it stops.
