My B is in serious need of a manifold. It fires more on the outside of the cylinder than in. I suspect the head gasket is gone too but the manifold is visibly cracked. Looking at a diagram of the engine it calls out two different types of manifolds. One is gas and the other one is a 'special'. The tractor serial number is 250822. Can someone confirm the part number of the one I need? I'm sure I need the gas version but I'll ask anyway. Where's the best place to get one?

As one might expect, the manifold studs/nuts are corroded together. I was thinking of seeing what an impact at low power does in the hope of pulling out the whole stud since I'll need new ones. If not then I'm going to cut stud/nut, pull off just above the manifold pray that I don't break off the stud at the head when taking is out. Who sells the studs?

How do I come by a wiring harness? I'm assuming worst case I could always bend a piece of conduit and paint it up. I'm not looking for a perfect restoration.

James

A point to remember is that the stud seals of the anti-freeze, which is much more difficult to do when using bolts. Russ

On my B I took a small grinder to get the rust off of the sides of the nuts that I could, Put the impact wrench on them and they came right out. Two of the studs came out and two of the bolts just came off. For putting the new one on a local mechanic recommended that I just use Stainless Steel Bolts so they won't rust.

JCook, The part # for the gas manifold is B 2472 R That fits the late model "B".
The studs are: 1) 7/16" X 1 7/8" 3) 7/16" X 4"
You can weld a nut on the broken studs and IF you are lucky you can screw them out. If not, you can drill a hole in them and use a torch with a very small tip and burn down 3 sides of them. Then tap them with a punch that has been sharpened to one edge. Just kind of tap on it. The manifold being cast iron, you are able to do this with out messing up the threads too bad. Then just run the threads with a tap. If you can't find the right studs I do make them. Not on a large scale but I would help out. I use stress proof rod. Hope this helps. Later

Jcookmo, I just did the same on a 1952 Model B. If your tractor is single fuel (gasoline), then the gas manifold is what you need. I got a new one from Sharps for just over $100, there are also used ones available, but the prices I was getting were around $60 to $80, so I spent a little extra for a new one. As far as the studs, I ended up drilling mine out, and then rethreading the holes. Good luck with getting them to turn out, they are a tight fit when new, and after 50+ years of heating/cooling/wetness/etc, they're probably stuck as bad as mine were. As far as new studs, your dealer can still get them for you. Good luck!
