Just wondering... Each time I have posted a question about my JD " D" you have answered it.Do you have a "D" that you know and love ,,or are you just the GURU of all john deere's ? Anyway I just wanted to say thanks , for sharing your knowledge and experience. I must have printed about 50 pages of your replies for further reference. I know I am not alone when I say THANKS

Marty, I have owned more than a few of those "D"s over the years. The unstyled "D" is one of my favorite tractors, it has a unique powerful sound & there is something about hand starting a 500+ cubic inch engine on a damp cold morning that makes you wonder why you like them. My only complaint on the "D" is that on the 2 speed it has 2 speeds--slow & slower & on the 3 speed it has 3 speeds--slow, slower & slowest yet. I owned a D" years ago that had the "racing" final drive chain & sprockets in it that would move along smartly but it was to fast to do much real work with. I think you will find that once you own a "D" you will always want one in your collection somewhere as there sound is unique & they store easily (unless you have to turn it sideways to fit in the back of your barn).

I couldn't agree more about the sound those old D's make. I just got mine running after rebuilding the engine and drive train and I was tickled pink to hear it run again. The only problem I had was with the primer cups leaking oil or something and getting my nice paint job all dirty. Is there a source for new or rebuilt primer cups for a 29D. Mine are pretty loose and in the open position only a small portion of the hole is showing. I too have benefited from a lot of your posts Clooney and always make sure to read a "Clooney" post when I see it. DickW
