On the 720 gas I have the previous owner had hooked the big post terminal on the starter to one terminal on the resister and the other side of the resister to the coil and the ignition. Clooney told me this was wrong and to find out if it was indeed wired this way.I took the flywheel cover off and the starter cover off to find this out since I don't have a voltmeter or tester. The problem is that I need to hook up the small post on the starter switch to the resister which means I will have to cut the wire, it leads to the ignition, what do I do with the other part of the wire that leads to the ignition after I join the other end to the resister and what do I do with the wire that i took off the resister that leads to the big post on the starter. I think that the wire that leads from the big post of the starter should go the mag terminal on the ignition switch. I appreciate the help thanks, Russell

Russell, just wire the system to be like this (poorly done) drawing. It should have a wire running from the (small) terminal on the starter switch to one end of the resistor, then run a wire from that same end to the ign coil, then run a wire from the other end of the resistor to the (mag) terminal on the ign S/W, then run a wire form the (bat) terminal on the ign S/W to the (non-battery) post on the ammeter. It might be less confusing to remove all the old wires running to the (coil), (starter S/W small terminal) & (resistor) & start over. If this is still confusing try to explain EXACTLY what you have now including wire color, where the wire starts & ends, all the places it attaches & what end it attaches to.
