I recently purchased a JD2030 or possibly a 401 series tractor. Hydraulic lift worked fine when I parked tractor 3 weeks ago. Cranked it up today and lift will not pick up. I can lift the arms manually but they will not hold. Lift is just dead. Hydraulic fluid changed recently, not sure about filter. Any ideas?

I agree with Russ. I just bought a JD 2030 and the first thing I had a problem with was the lack of response by the hydraulic lift arms. It was the valve beneath the seat toward the gearshift levers - right of center.

do you have any other high pressure consumer in your tractor? power steering? scv? loader?.
if other hydraulic consumers work well the problem might be in the rockshft system. if all high pressure consumers do not work also, the problem might be with the hyd. pump or its supply.

Thanks for the reply david. No, I don't have a loader or any remotes, not sure about power steering. I was told it did not have power steering when I bought it, but I have to admit it sure steers very easily. I did not move the tractor when I discovered the lift not working so, I am not sure if steering is now harder to handle. I will check on this item.

What is the rockshaft system? Thanks in advance for your reply.

have you checked fluid level...if seals are leaking on lower lift arms you can loose a lot of fluid in 3 weeks....you have a screen that should take out and check..change filter and fill with fluid..run tractor and check fluid...if you need help e-mail me and i will try to help..have nice day

thanks for the reply. No leaks, in fact, the lift arm seals were replaced shortly before I purchased tractor, that is when fluid was changed. checked level with both engine off and with it running. Appears to be same. I think I know where the filter is, but I am not sure about the screen you mentioned???

My thoughts were that if a filter or screen was dirty or plugged, I would still get some fluid flow and some lift movement. I have absolutly no movement???

Between your legs there is a rate of drop screw. Make sure this is unscrewed out about 1/2 - 1 full turn out. Might have kicked it with your foot when getting off tractor and closed it. I work for JD in kansas so Iif u still have trouble and can't get a dealer close to u to answer your questions let me know and I'll try to look in a book for you. I hope this does the trick but it's a shot in the dark. After all it is a 2030 haha. Not my personal favorite but yet a handy tractor.
