I just bought a restored JD B this morning. I looked for specs here but have not found any yet. Can y'all tell how many horses? Will it turn a 5 or 6 foot brush hog okay in tall grass? What gear should I run? It's had a rebuild (and paint) recently. I have an ORC already.

This one has a Cat One 3 point hitch on it. It looks like JD parts and all. Works great. Was that a factory option or an after market deal?

Teenaged son borrowed a 6' pull behind Brush Hog and used it behind his '49 B, this summer - no problems - mostly in third gear, where conditons permitted - primarily roughness of the field.

About 25 on the drawbar and 28 on the PTO. I have been using a 6 foot Bush Hog and found you will be using creeper gear alot, of course I was cutting pretty low. The other problem with a 3 point is the front end is light and you should have some weight added.Probably a 5 foot would be better. Brush, weeds, etc was not a problem, but grass is another matter. My 1950 B dynos 30 hp so I am not low on power. Russ

I have a 5 foot Bush Hog so I should be okay on power if I use creeper or second gear until I get this field under control. I understand you about the light front end. It'll jump up just with a little "less than subtle" clutch action out of a novice driver. Where do I find some front weights that look good? I don't want to hang a bucket of rocks on it like I've seen back in the old days. Is there a pattern I can use for building a hanger for suitcase weights?

I would put fluid in the front tires to start with. Calcium cloride is of course heavier but if freezing is not a problem then I would use just plain water. I assume you have an overrunning clutch on your PTO a saftey necessity. I put the valve stem on the top, and that way you get about 80%. I have never seen any weights that go on the tractor, but I have seen front wheel weights. finding them is another thing. Russ
