Been a mechanic for years but this one is stumping me today. Put in accel diaphram and needle and seat.Points recently new,new cond.,freed up the mechanical advance that was stuck. Runs good at idle and wide open, but under load up a hill for instance, pulling,it runs out of power in about 500' and dies. Starts up again and will go the same till it has to pull like in 8th gear.Had the carb. apart three times to readjust the float and clean and check everything. Plenty of fuel from the pump, and even hooked up an aux.tank right to the carb.to try something.Like it can't get the fuel into the carb fast enough and sucks it dry, then dies and will then restart after a little cranking????? ? Any thots or past experience on one like it?

My 3010 did the same thing and I even ran a new fuel line where engine heat would not cause vapor lock. No luck. Turned out to be the fuel inlet into the carb had a screen that was covered with almost invisible varnish. Scrapped it off and opened the screen holes and it ran great.

There may be a screen filter on the last fitting where the gas line goes into the carb. I know there's one on my 420.

There should be a little filter under the gas tank needs to be cleaned.. and check line from tank to pump and to carb..
