a few weeks ago the impulse drive cap on my 36 B cracked in half and i got a replacement then I noticed the impulse striker plate was busted ordered a new one then i got it all back together and i havent been able to get it goin. i was told by the man we bought it from that the spring was shot so i took it to the tractor place down the road and the jerk laughed at me and said it just needed to be tighted that I should've known that but when i asked he didnt know how to do it but ive dinked around with it for about an hour and a half and it still aint workin right can someone help me?. id like to fix it myself because i dont want to pay for a rebuild when all it needs is the drive cup put on right.

Andy, wind the spring counter clockwise until it will enter the drive cup then install the inner leg of the spring in the slots of the spacer washers (it helps to clamp the rotor end of the shaft in a SOFT jawed vise), then pull the spring out of the cup slightly & pull the cup up slightly to clear the inner flange, then wind one complete turn counter-clockwise, then push the drive cup into place, then put a little grease on the OUTSIDE of the impulse lock nut & install the nut as tight as possible but still allow the impulse to function (It won't be completely tight), then (I always use a little loc-tite on the nut to shaft threads so it won't come loose. The impulse stop gets installed with the stop arm to the left side & the top index mark 2-1/2 to 3 marks to the left of the center mark that is on the housing. If this isn't clear or you have other problems re-post or E-mail me.
