Clooney i looked at the wires on the 720 gas today and the two wires on the top of the resister, one goes to the coil the other goes to the ignition were burnt to the bare wires. The botom of the resister connection goes down through the flywheel cover and it looks fine. The wire that leads to the coil is burnt all the way to the coil in places. The resister looks like it has a crack in the porcelin where the spring is attached and is gray to black. Do you think the voltage regulator is set too high and burning the wires up or is it just a bad resisiter. Thanks for the help ,Russell.

Russell, seeing as it burnt the wires after the resistor you probably have a short to ground in the coil, have the wrong coil or the wire connector at the coil is touching the coil case. The wires have no reason to burn after the problem area & almost always burn between the short & power source. If someone put a coil from a transistor ignition system on your tractor to try to get extra coil output could cause the wire to burn as they use a much lower resistance primary winding. If there is anything else wired to the coil ignition side like an alternator or other accessory it could be the problem also.
