I am restoring a Hercules engine for a L John Deere engine and I have had the crankshaft ground and need new undersized bearings.

Can any one help?

Don,
I wish I could help, but I'm faced with the same situation. I am also restoring a Hercules L, but have not yet started with the engine (other than to tear it down). If and when I do come up with a resource, I'd be happy to share what I learn.

Thanks for the response. The one I have is the early one 1939 I think. It had poured rod and main bearings. I had located a person some place in Ohio (I think) who was going to fix me up with the bearings, but when I had the crankshaft ground I couldn't find his name, address, or phone number.

I found him some place on the internet but can't locate him again.

If you have any luck, please let me know.

You might contact Spiegelberg Restoration, they have restored a 1940 L and had the main bearings rebabbitted. Check their web site out at: Link
