THe generator on my 1950 B will not charge the battery. The guage will not show it charging and I end up draining batteres on a semi-regular basis. The regulator is new and I polarized it as described in the manual for the new regulator. It is a 6v system. Any ideas? All wiring is new although all "fixtures" I.e lights, generator, coil, etc. are not.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Karl

Yeah Karl clooney and I have given many detailed troubleshooting answers to your question somewhere below here. He or I need to save our patt answer so we dont have to keep repeating it I guess. I agree since the VR is new its proably the generator (assuming wirign is good to and thru the ammeter and to the battery) but look at the simple cheap fixes first like a good tight belt, good ground on the VR AND generator, wirign from BAT on the VR thru the ammeter actually gets to the battery usually at the starter post, and many many times if she wont gen, its the brush hold down springs are dirty and corroded and dont exert downward pressure which can be remedied by air and cleaning and wd 40 etc. If that dont do it, ground the field winding out of the generator to insure a good ground and a good VR. Let us know Ol John T

Karl, sounds like generator problems or wiring problems..Run a site search for GENERATOR, or NOT CHARGING, or Clooney, or John T on this site or Rummys & see if you can find the help you need (there should be plenty) if you can't find the help you need here post back & John T or I will re-type the test procedure.
