I am working on a 8110. When you turn the steering wheel at idle it will shut off transmission pressure. I am in the process of bypassing the emergency steering pump to seperate it out of the circuit. I am hoping for a problem in the priority valve area. Has anyone ever ran into a problem like this before?

IR... I have ran into problems like this before... the problem that we were having before was the seal blowing out of the MFWD clutch.. Try turning the MFWD clutch on.. and then test the tractor.. ( the MFWD clutch is spring engaged, hydraulic disengaged, if this is the problem when you turn on the MFWD clutch you will be turning off the leak.) If the MFWD is on and all is OK then you have a problem on the MFWD clutch.. Also install a gauge in the PS DR on the top of the Valve stack, make sure this psi in in the specs.. Usually if there is a leak in the Pilot system oil the psi at the PS port will be just low on the spec. I do not think that it is the Ground Drivin pump unless the check valve between the brakes and the steering valve is stuck.. (but very unlikely..) As you know the priority valve has low pressure until you turn the the wheel.. the priority valve is just closing off the about of oil, flowing out of the valve. This restriction then causes the pressure to build for steering.. Check this PSI on the Priority valve. There are two DR's on the valve. One is Load sense (usually labeled LS) and Priority Pressure (usually labed P on the priotity valve..) some of the later vavles are not labeled. Also, if you think you are losing flow from the pump, there is splined shaft between the Charge pump (inside pump on the left side) and the Pimpary pump (outside pump on the left) but I have never seen one of these shafts break... The other problem that I have seen is the gasket blow on the transmission valve housing, but I cannot tell you how to check for it or where it was leaking... Let me know what you find... I am intrested in the pressures you are getting at the PS port, and to see if you are getting about 3000 psi at the steering with the wheel turned against the stop.. this will tell you that your priority valve is working correctly.. as long as it returns to its standby pressure... Let me know what you find.. JDGnut

I can't tell you off hand what the pressures were. I'll get the info at work. When the tractor was set up I had to bump up the transmission pressure. I think I put 3 shims in. You want to talk about Deere needing to find a better idea in adjusting pressure. I know the pressure in the PS port was in spec. It has right at 30 p.s.i. difference from 1000-2000rpm. My service manager called D-Tac before I was done testing and they recommended bypassing the emergency steering system. I have not had a chance to do this test yet. I drove it on the lot and the MFWD did not seem to matter. I did also do a lube pressure test and the MFWD, PTO, brakes, neautral, and park passed. Like I said I will get the pressures and results of the tests to you. Hopefully I will get more answers tomorrow. I think that if there is a problem in the back cover area that the tractor gets split. You would not think that a 119 hour tractor would have a problem in this area but anything is possible.

Opps.. it can't be the check valve between the steering and the brakes... I don't know what I was thinking.. I'll check out the manual tomorrow.. I know what you are thinking.. that you are losing your flow out the ground drivin pump some how.. I'm not sure how.. but anything is possible... Good Luck..
