i have a 3020 gas powershift(64 modle) that i was useing to mow hay with today and after a little while it started missing and carring on so i shut it off to check spark-plugs. started right up and after i turned on the pto and got it up to speed it died like some one shut the key off. we can get ti to start but after either running for about a minute it dies or when we get it up to about 2000 rpm and let off teh throttle it dies...if anyone could help i would like it alot.

Check the inlet line to the carb. Some of the fittings into the carb had screens on them that get a moss like substance from the gas over time. Also make sure your condensor is good and the points are gapped correctly and there is lube on the dist shaft to keep wear at a min.If you still need help let me know and I'll do more checking

Just a thought, remove the distributer cap, where the wires from the condenser "plug" in to the points , check for corosion on the wire ends (will be discolored brass) also check point gap and see if wear point has worn down and closed the points.Don

i think the first thing to do is to take the fuel line loose at the carb and see how much flow you have.sounds to me like the line is plugged.

twopop, we took the line off but we where in the field and probley didnt take time to look at it very close. it has a fuel filter on it that looks like it has been on it since new so i thought i would get one of those tomorrow along with a new battery. another thing, is the throttle rod supposed to have a spring on it to pull teh govner linkage back, so it doesnt choke it or starve it for fuel? thanks for the help.

the only spring used on the 3020,is a short spring up at the governor.it is between two levers.

If it's not lack of fuel , then it could be a weak condensor or coil
