I just finished rebuilding my 320U and I noticed that it does not have the heat shield that mounts to the rear of the manifold. Is this shield necessary? Is it really important that it be used on a simi retired tractor?
Thanks, Paul

Paul, if that shield wasn't needed Deere wouldn't put it on to begin with. That heat shield was even used on the M. It keeps exhaust heat off the fuel tank & battery. If you only use your tractor for play & don't pull a brush hog, plow or rear blade or only use it in cold weather you probably don't need it. Keep an eye on the fuel tank temperature & if tends to get hot make a shield so the fuel doesn't boil & cause a fire.

Clooney; This tractor has officially retired. It will not be used to plow or bush hog any more. I'm trying to find a used shield but if I can't find one I'll just have to make one. Thanks, Paul
