what setting to use on mixture screw. I think the carb is ok just not set right. I just bought it and trying to drive it home.1949 model it floods out after driving a short distance say a block or so and seems to be running to rich. I tried moving the screws but actually have no idea which way they should go. Never owned a tractor, but have lots experience on cars and trucks.

The load screw should be set about 3/4 to 1 turn out, and the idle screw about 1-1/2. The load screw is the one farthest away when looking from the flywheel side. A more likely problem is a heavy float caused by a crack and letting gas get inside the float. Russ

Thanks for the info, just what I needed to get it adjusted. Also had to change plugs they were fouled out. The guy I bought it from killed by pulling the choke, said it was only way he knew to shut it off. I know theres got to be another way, I've got a lot to learn JC OKLA

I have heard many people choking the tractor to kill it but in some of the older model owners books, it talks about shutting the gas valve off. I prefer to do that just to keep the plugs cleaner. Might also keep the oil cleaner.
