The B I just bought has no serial # but with the parts manual I've got it narrowed down to a 46 or 47. The axle housing has, in addition to the part number, a screwed or rivited tag with a 200 on it. The power lift housing has a 194(?) tag. Is there any way to date these castings or do they all have these? Any other tricks to narrow the possibilities? Thanks in advance.

Russ is correct, also the 47 and later have a single stick transmission with the creeper gears.

It looks like it could still be a 47 even though it has the cast frame - the pressed steel frame didn't start until 201000 and the 47's began at around 191000, so there are a lot of 47's with the cast frame unless Deere skipped all those #'s and started the new redesign at 201,000. This may be as close as I'm going to get - thanks for the replies.

Cast frames are 43 or 44. Angle iron frames is probably what you mean. Right?

Thats right Paul. I know of a cast frame B that is a 47. Its SN is 199888. Worked on it for a friend. It also has rolo-matic front. I suspect it was added to the tractor.

SN 626081 would be an A SN. The A's didn't go to single stick til 1950.

Well it easy to tell the difference between a 46 and 47. The 47 thru 52 will have a pressed steel frame. Also the 1950 thru l952 will have square rear axles. Othere than that pretty tough. Russ
