Hey guys I know this may be a little new for this site but I have a friend that has a 4440 with the 8 speed power shift that is giving some trouble. The PTO wants to run whenever the tractor is moving (ie in gear) Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks, Bob

Bob, There is a couple of things that can cause this problem. To answer your question correctly it would be better to know some more about it as I will ask. Does this happen in all gear speeds or just in certain gears? If it is doing it in some gears of transmission speeds and not in others, your problem is most likely the manifold steel sealing rings separating the transmission clutch elements (C1 and C 2) from PTO element in the front clutch pack. They are in the front clutch pack manifold housing. If it does it in all time no matter weather the tractor is moving or not then your problem is PTO clutch and PTO brake failure related. The fact of the matter is if it is either of the two possibilities exist the tractor will have to be spilt at the clutch to address the first cause and again at the transmission if problem has any thing to do with the PTO brake. To split the tractor at the transmission joint it has to be split at the clutch first. Tractor should have a pressure gauge put on the PTO clutch element test port to determine if PTO clutch element is getting pressure on it from the transmission when it shouldn't be then you will know which way to go for sure. Good Luck Dave W.

Bob, Sounds like he has an internal leak on a clutch pack. Better have dealer run pressure checks.
