The touch-o-matic system on my JD 40 has very little power all of the sudden. It lifts only partially and very slowly, then lets back down. I am losing some fluid so I am getting air in the system. After working the air out, there is still no lift. Any suggestions? Unless I'm wrong, the fluid cannot get into the transmission any way. Could the rings be bad?

I also recently had poor performance with my touch-o-matic on my 40s. I was lucky in that after flushing the system as it says in the manual
the dirt came out and with new fluid it is holding fine. I did not have any air pocket problems when putting in the new fluid.

I had the same problem on my MT, and found a loose connection under the hood on the suction line. These are hard to spot as opposed to a pressure line, but the system cannot tolerate any leaks in the suction line to the pump. Russ

I will check. I did notice some fluid leaking from a line on top of the fuel tank. I had removed the lines to replace the engine last spring then have used the tractor all summer.
