well Gman and Bob i think i have cracked it, i was put under pressure as the customer called round for his tractor and wanted to take it away with him this morning so i didn't have as long as i would have liked, but i can always go back later, I had 1/2 hole short, i then lengthened it one turn about 2/3 overlap, gave 11/2 and 3/4 as a bench mark, started her and it made a difference cant believe that it is that sensitive and i would have liked another hour to convinced my self, opened her up backed of a tad on the load, seamed to be slightly restricted at the top end so give a tad on the idle, which mad it a bit more free running. would like to of done a rev reading on max as, i dot think there was quite enough at the top, i surpose that could be down to the rod length? il try all this out on the 41AR and 36BN i need to get finished in the next 2 weeks and see if it makes any differences thanks johnT regards the fuel cap issue im going to heed your advice and put on plains for the nationals and if im wrong il say you told me so i dont think any one would argue over here in england. speak soon nigelB

Nigel, Im not sure on your AR, but Im pretty certain all other unstyled A's and B's used the non lettered (i.e. dont say "Keep Fuel Clean") smooth top fuel caps and expect the same would hold true for an AR also. John T

If you find out what fixed it, please share, I have an A right now, running it with a extended rod and bypassing the governer it runs fine, pulled the gov and new bearings etc, still runs away when connected properly. Bob
