I am re-wiring my John Deere LA. It is equipped with starter, generator, and lights. What gauge of wire should I use for best results? Thanks.

Extra flex copper wire. Welding or grounding cable can make quality starter, jumper or battery cables. Extra flex has fine strands such as used in quality extension cords. I have been guilty of using type SOW or Cabtire extension for trailer wiring harnesses. A well stocked electrical wholesaler will have something in bulk on a wire reel with insulation that resists oil & heat.

AW I dont have the exact sizes either, but the generators output, through any ammeter, and then to the battery, I would use a number 12, and on most other circuits, a 14 should do just fine or maybe a 16 even. Basically, the bigger the better because that means less resistance to current flow yielding less voltage drop across the wiring and less heat also. As far as battery cables, again (especially on 6 volt systems) the bigger the better, and I like # 2 or 0 as compared to many #4 as used on automotive applications. Ol John T

AWB, I don't have much on the LA wire gage & haven't built a harness for one so all I can do is suggest you call Agri-Services 716-937-6618. If they can't help you E-Mail me & I will suggest wire gage sizes that will work good but might not be the exact original production size & color.

Why don't you buy a harness looks neat and not that expensive
