It makes me sick every time I look at this website and see what the rest of you are paying for utility tractors. I live near Kansas City and everything around here seems to sell for at least $2000 more than anywhere else in the country. I would like to find a different (I currently have a 1020 with loader) tractor in the forty horse range with a loader for around $7000. I here all your stories where you have all done just that. However, a decent tractor like that around here will sell from $8500-$13000.

Same here, I live just SE of KC, Holden, and looked for 6 months for a utility tractor, finally bought a bigger than what I need tractor with loader for the same price of a smaller one w/o loader, my mother-in-law is near-by, and still runs the family farm, and half the time her older AC is down, so I get to go over and play with mine there on the weekends... talk about free labor! I think her and my wife plan this in advance!

Don't shop in the K-City paper. Get the local small town papers from surrounding counties and look there and watch for farm/estate sales.

Supply & demand. Middle aged & retiring people fleeing the city or geting back to thier roots & purchasing rural property. Often more land than a garden tractor can handle. The reason to move into then country is often to see deer, birds, little critters & the peace & quiet. Then for what ever reason a bush hog is purchased & the entire lot is converted into a pasture field. Then the new land owner/bushhog operator wonders where the wildlife went & why there is so much farm & road noise. They just removed the wildlife habitat & the plants/bushes & trees that absorb noise.

Hey James, My brother who lives in Oak Grove, Brought home a 1020 with a loader (gas) from Bonner Springs. He paid 7000.00 I know utilities are at a premium in our area, but look harder. I accompanied him for months searching in an 100 mile arc from our area and we would find several John Deere utilities below 7000.00 in various degree of conditions.

Hey don't feel like the Lone Ranger. Good tractors are scarce around here and expensive when you do find 'em. Unless it's one I have.
