Nigel, kinda like Ol Clooney there, with the long road trip and chances to get crud in the sediment bowl and/or carb, I suspect a fuel flow problem maybe. U gotta get a good flow of clean gas into the carb bowl FIRST and then of course the carb has to be okay. Are you able to open the carbs power needle adjustment to where she over richens and black smokes out the stack????? If u got good flow to the bowl and can richen her out at the needle adjustment and she still lacks power, then I would clean or replace the plugs with Autolite 388, clean and adjust or replace the points and condensor, then take 2 aspirins and call us at the office on Monday. Good luck let us know Ol John T

nigelB, pull the drain plug (or petcock) on the bottom of the carb & make sure you have a steady pencil sized stream of fuel for at least 30 seconds. If ok there you might have an ignition coil, points or condencer going bad. Or if you fueled up at that last stop you might have picked up a load of bad fuel.
