I am aware that a gas 70 and an all-fuel 70 have different cylinder heads due to the fact that the valves are bigger in the all-fuel head. My question is- is the basic casting the same on both with the exception of the bowl and seat area, or are they completely different castings? I know they are a different casting number. Are the port sizes the same down to the bowl area? Thanks for all help. Mike

Mike, The 70 All-Fuel head is a complete different casting and part than the gas head. The gas head and block have one more head to block stud than the All-Fuel head. The All-Fuel head bolt pattern is the same as the "G" John Deere. The All-Fuel head uses the same exhaust, intake valve and valve guides as the late "G" head. The valve ports are very slopped towards the valve opening on the All-Fuel head which I think would be allot better than the cornered ports in the gas head. I have had one of these heads over the years and they are very unique. The four head studs below the valve cover are shorter in length than the rest of the studs in the block. The block in these tractors are unique to the All-Fuel tractors as well. Basically they were a "G engine with a duplex carburetor on them. If you know of any better grab it up as they are hard to find! I might know where there is a complete 70 All-Fuel tractor to buy? Good Luck Dave W.

Dave,
What does the combustion chamber look like on the 70 all fuel head? Is it like a G where half of the intake valve is blocked when it opens from the cyclone design, or does the valve sit up on top similar to a late heisler head for a A or B? Ever use one on a G with lots of cubes and see a difference on the dyno? Thanks

A JD G or All fuel 70 head will not bolt onto a 70 gas block, for one has 10 head studs and the other has 9!! Jerry's Machine shop is casting new powerblocks that he will put either bolt pattern on that will fit a 70 or a G. hope this helps.

The 70 All-Fuel head combustion chamber is like the late G head with the intake valve down in the chamber with the one side of the intake valve shielded as you described. As you may know the reason for the cyclone design was to make the air go into a swirl or "cyclone" as it entered the combustion chamber. I had put one of these heads on a 70 with a "G" Powerblock years ago. The engine also had a 9 1/4" stroke. It ran pretty good but the head was not the only thing that made it run good. Dave W.
