Looking at a couple of nice JD H tractors, and would like input from the experts on this BB about things to watch out for with this model.

Are there particular weak points or other potential problems to look at with an 'H'?

Thanks for any opinions or input on this topic.

Randy, there are some design changes between the 1939 & the later tractors. The flywheel was made larger, the camshaft was changed, some transmission changes were made, different carb, etc. The 39 might be more valuable to a collector because of its rarity. The later models might be more valuable to a 'user' because of the improvements & because the parts are more available.

I would suggest getting one with electric start- Both tractors are nice but if your tractor is not just perfect it MIGHT whip you to crank it. One that is running good and is adusted properly is easy to crank by hand. If one of the tractors has fenders I would suggest getting that one- Fenders are expensive and can increase the value more than you think. Not many H John Deeres have fenders- They cost 12 dollars extra to a farmer and were not a must. I own one myself. They are a fun tractor to have and are easily transported.
