I have found a 1946 B locally that has been"90%" restored. According to the seller, it was an FFA project and the tractor was stripped and re-painted. It has new rubber all around (one rear has not yet been mounted but it goes with the machine). Supposedly the tin is very straight and the paint is good to very good. It does not currently run supposedly because of a bad magneto which the owner says he can't get parts for (sorry..I don't buy that line). Obviously this makes it impossible to asertain the condition of the engine, transmission, hydraulics, etc. I have bought non-running tractors in the past (2, both of which I got runing and run well now) but I have never paid more than $950. This guy wants $2500 which is a premium price for a B, much less a non-running B. I can probably give it a compression test cold and dry to get a quick and dirty idea of engine condition, but thats about all...everything else is guesswork unless he has a stack of receipts to back his claim. Question...What is a reasonable offer in this situation??? I'm looking at it Saturday, but I get the impression he has an inflated opinion of its value. Unless the consensus is otherwise, my top dollar is $1500, assuming everything is in order. Oh, one more thing...he has been trying to sell it for 2 months plus and no bites at his current price.
