I've got a 1938 JD B (Unstyled). I'm trying to get this old tractor back to correct condition and have a few questions:1. The fuel system was a mess. I've re-conditioned the sediment bowl, had the carburetor professionally rebuilt, and bought a new (reproduction) 3-way valve. I need two fuel lines - one from the small tank to the 3-way valve, and one from the 3-way valve to the carburetor. I'm not above using 1/4" copper tubing, but can't seem to find the correct fittings to make it work. The 3-way valve goes "aft" of the sediment bowl on the old B's and has 5/16" fine male pipe threads. I've seen other tractors with copper tubing and 3-way valves, but didn't take note of what size and type fittings they used to make it work. Can anyone advise me on how to fabricate my own lines or tell me who would have these with the fittings already attached? I've checked with my local John Deere dealer and as always, they're extremely proud of their parts - as is Dennis Polk. 2. Does anyone know who makes reproduction hoods for this B? I've seen a couple of vendors at shows and can't remember their names. 3. I don't think this tractor idles right. The engine has been totally rebuilt, head and valves redone, carb rebuilt, mag rebuilt, manifold re-surfaced and all new gaskets and seals. The compression and power are excellent, starts easily, idles down very low, and it would pull a mountain, but I think it still idles rougher than other tractors I've listened to of the same year and model. Our local John Deere "expert" mechanic swears the timing is dead on and says that some of them just idle this way. I think we're missing something - an adjustment, leak, ...something. (It's kind of like a mother's intuition - you just know when there's something wrong with your baby.) I know it's hard to give advice when you can't hear it yourself, and "Mr. Thinker" would chew me out big-time for even asking, but if there's something else I could try, fix, or adjust to make it idle smoother, I'd appreciate your comments.
