Hello,

I am very new to the tractor market. Does anyone have any imput on the John Deere 4010 deisel tractor, made in 1961. I am new to farming and looking to see if this is a good tractor to do some small agerage haying with. We have about 60 acres to hay. We are very unfamiliar with tractors but we are willing and able to learn. Any warnings, concerns, or suggestions on this tractor would be very

good tractor, do you intend to bale small square bales or even 4x5 round bales? If bigger bales then the tractor may be a bit light.

Wendy,
4010's are fine tractors. I own an early 4020, and they are virtually the same tractor with very few changes. {They are great tractors} The 4010 has hopefully been rebuilt in its long lifetime, and if running well, should serve very well as a haying tractor. If you are as you say new to the tractor world, and if you have rolling ground invest in a wide front if it's already not equipted so. I have nothing against the narrow fronts, mine personally having a rollamatic, but they do take some technique and experience to handle safely on steeper ground. Like I said earlier, if everything is operational, and in working order they are good tractors, and you should get good service. If you have any specific questions or if it has some problems you have questions about please feel free to post back. Later, Greg H.
