I was helping a neighbor bag corn silage and I had to use their 720D. Not being a true pput-pput man they had to teach me how to drive the old girl. It must not like me because the fork for the range popped out and I had the transmission in the low side and the lever in the high side. You can't use reverse that way. We pulled out the shift quadrant, starter, and the transmission cover. We shoved the fork back to the correct spot and put it together. That was fine, but it did it four times. That's getting too tiring. I need some answers to repair this permanantly or someone is going to suggest a repair involving shoving it off a cliff. I am sure some of you bright Deere people can suggest a quality repair as I would like to see this honking two lunger do her job. Thank you!

I have a 520 that did the very same thing. since it happened, I have been extra careful to let the pulley turn slowly while I move the shifter between the ranges. So far I haven't had to tear the top off of the transmission again. Hope this helps you through your silage time.

you probably have considerable wear in bearing, and probably shaft wear. Also your shifter make be damaged and the locker not holding. Probably a tear down would be in line, generally for a well worn tractor there is no quick fix.

Hello, I got a 720 and I got a big bolt in the shifter slot to 1st gear, cause if the lever goes up that way it unhooks from everthing. Managed to force things back to working order the first time it did it but I knew this could get involved. So, a big bolt keeps 1st inactive. Does it help to know you are not the only one who has a winter project???? Only help here is that you are not the only one with that problem. George
