Fifteen years and four owners after he sold it with the farm, my grandpa's 1950 JD MT is back in the family!

Grandma and Grandpa sold their 62 acre farm (home for 51 years) in the fall of 1986 and moved to town. The tractor stayed with the farm. Two years ago after my grandpa died, I began thinking about getting his tractor back in the family. One year ago I acted upon my notion. The man who bought it from Grandpa had sold it several years ago to his ex-father-in-law. From that point it took me a full year to finally track the tractor down. Yesterday, I brought it home.

It's in really great shape. The man I bought it from owned it for 4 years and spent time and money restoring it. I still have to finish the painting, but that's about it. He replaced and repaired what needed it, put on new tires, and began the painting process. He did me a big favor in selling it to me (there are some wonderful people out there).

This tractor (serial # 19097) is special, and will stay in the family now. Although I never logged any hours on it, I spent a lot of hours helping my dad and grandpa cut wood while the tractor powered a belt-driven buzz saw.

I'll post pictures soon. I'm excited and wanted to share the joy!

Congradulations. I have had the same experiance. My wifes grandfather had a 1956 john deere 60 just like the one i had grown up with but my father sold it to get a bigger tractor. He passed away and i had inquired about it a couple years after but they didnt want to sell it. So i did a few favors by painting grandma,s house in 100 degree heat and putting in an add a shower. Then iI got scared when a cousins husband who will sell his mother for a dollar was getting close to it so i finally got them to sell it to me. I restored it and it is a beutiful tractor. thanks

I have been in a similar situation. My great uncle had a Farmall Super C that he bought new in 1951 and farmed with up till about 1992. The tractor, along with others, stayed around the farm till last year. My great aunt, decided to let her son take over managing the farm(all the workable land was being rented). He decided to sell all the tractors and buy a kubota. He wouldn't sell me the super C, and my parents didn't think I should buy it(it didn't run at the time and really needed work.) My great aunt found out that I was interested in it, had it arranged for a guy w/a roll back truck to deliver it to me. She wouldn't take anything for it, just wanted me to have it. I have since restored it and made her a picture frame with before and after photos. It is a good running tractor now and is used on the farm all the time.

I echo congradulations ! Nothing seems better to
me than bringing a "family" member home again, even if the "family" member happens to have tires.
Hopefully some day I can make the same kind of
post on Grandpa's '47 "B". Best of luck. rick
