I have a 1954 40s all original with a 6 volt system. I go through a battery every 3 years.
Is that about right?

I just installed a new one and then someone told me that I could have used a 8 volt battery. Maybe next time but I am not sure that this is the right thing to do. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, I have heard that to. Although it wouldn't increase the liffe of the battery, it will role it faster and start it a little better. I would do that if it were my tractor.

Tom, if the 6 volt battery is starting it good & the lights work good don't mess with the 8 volt battery. If you make the switch to 8 volts you will have to adjust the regulator to 9+ volts & that will shorten the light & point life. 3 years on a battery in a vibrating machine that isn't used & charged every day isn't too bad.
