I have a 41 A that I use on a loader & wood splitter. It still has all the original bearings & pistons. Since it doesn't get hot I have a lot of plug fouling, especially in the winter. It's converted to 12V(still have all the stuff to go original if I ever want) & I'm thinking about trying an electronic ignition instead of the old mag. Will this stop my plug problems? What kind of ignition is best? Anybody had any experience with this? Thanks for the help. Paul

I would say that the distributer(exscuse my spelling) is the best sorce of ignition, but it requiers a battery and generator to run. A mag should work unless it nees rebuilt. Try new points and that first maybe.

Have had a lot of problem with gas fowling in the past and all my tractors now have electronic. They are all duplex carburators. Haven't tried it on a single induction, but do know that you need a delco distributor to use the electronic. I can't say enough good about the new ignitions, they are so far ahead of points. They deliver about 40,000 volts and the distributor said they could have made it hotter but it would tend to jump inside the original type distributor cap. If you can equate you notice the size of some of the auto caps. I don't think with the higher voltage it matters what type plug your using. It will sure light up the gas. As a matter of fact I hosed down a distributor for a test and it fired right up. My kits came from Genessee electronic, and talk to Andy if you call them. Good luck.

How do you contact Gennessee? Do they have a phone or website? I bought a Delco distributor with this idea in mind. Engine runs good otherwise, doesn't burn oil. I've tried lean mixtures, closing shutters, etc. but nothing works very well. Best luck so far has been with Autolite 388 plugs. Mag is good and I put in a Roberts hot coil. Eberything helped but still have the problem. I'll try the electronic route. Thanks, Paul

Well you did not say whether you are gas fowling or oil fowling, but I would try and lean down the carb, close the shutters, and put champion D-23 plugs in it. If you are oil fowling then engine work is required. Russ
