Well, I got the parts including new gaskets for the Mag and shims for the side plate. Not sure how to tell how many to put in there was one thick one on it. I got the outer race out of the side plate using a puller, cannot get a bite on the inner which is on the shaft still IN the tractor. Appreciate advice. Bob

Bob, you really should pull the shaft out to work on it, or maybe pull the complete governor. I usually put the whole shaft assemly in an arbor press & press the gear & inner bearing race off together. Use the same thickness of gasket (shim) as was on it to begin with. If you pull the 2 screws from the fork & lift the fork shaft up you be able to get that shaft assembly out with the governor still on the tractor.

Thanks Clooney; I have not had luck getting the screws out, being careful not to strip them. I have a machinist friend coming over maybe he will have an idea or better luck than I. Checked around for prices on the parts, finally ordered from the JD dealer. Cheapest by quite a bit especally for the bearing and shims. By the way, is two thins equal to one old thick? All I could get was thin shims. Bob
