Gasket set obsolete?!?

I tried to buy a set of gaskets (Transmission and rear end overhaul gasket set # AA 4287 R) and it was the first part (other than the all-fuel mainfold) they didn't have for my tractor at the Deere dealer. Before I can get the main case swapped out and start replacing the guts on my '46 A, I need to either get this gasket set, or at least get the main case-to-final drive gasket (# A 5541 R) so I can bolt the new case on and go to it.

Anyone got a line on either the set or that one gasket?

Chris

What everyone else told you was on the money. Remember, service enthusiasm varies with JD dealers, especially when you are looking for parts for tractors made before they were born. If you ever get in a ditch, you may want to call Greg Stephen at 303 663 5246. He's a JD dealer in Colorado with a partiality to old ones. He helped me a lot when I rebuilt my '48 A. Best of luck.

I just stop by my JD dealer to check out for parts and they do have the gasket kit for my JD A #540063 and they can order them it cost about 65 dollors and they can get other gasket that I need.

Chris, once in awhile you will run into a gasket set being not available but all the individual pieces still are. Some parts people don't bother to look up another part number so they will tell you "it's not available". It seems they don't want to be bothered with this "old stuff". Hope this helps. Mike

Chris, those gaskets are avable from JD, I've bought lots of them. I'm in mid Mo. and some of the gaskets my dealer don't have at the store, but can have them next day. If I'm not mistaken the one that goes between the main case and rearend housing is the same for your A, and up to and including the 60.
