On my 39 B, the brake peddles are loose. I asked my JD dealer to order the bushings. My brakes have the hood and he says there are no bushings on these brakes. is this so?

Be glad you don't have any brake bushings. those things cost a FORTUNE from the deere dealer!

wllarson, the 39- J.D. B doesn't use bushings in the housings for the pedal shafts. You will either have to machine the housings for a bushing, build the pedal shaft up, or shim the pedal to housing with a hardened washer to eliminate the play. The excess play doesn't seem to hurt anything, but it is annoying.

The brakes on my '35 B had both inner and outer bushings. Had to have a machine shop make replacements and now the chatter is gone. It turned out that the noise was a washer between the shaft nut and pinion in contact with the bull gear teeth. Also make sure your brake shaft isn't worn too bad. Keep your brakes in good repair.
