I am 17, and I am almost done restoring a 1948 Model BNH Tractor. Due to a hard life, this tractor was in terrible shape when I started to restore it. The sheetmetal was destroyed, one rim was shot, and there were many other problems. This machine was used very little, but it was parked in a chicken coop until my dad purchased it in the early 1970's. The engine was stuck then, and he rebuilt it as a teenager. It was used to cultivate corn for a few years until the tires wore out. Due to the fact that it was not an essential part of my grandfather's machinery lineup, it was parked until I thought of restoring it. A fellow collector in the New Jersey area said it was a rare tractor, but since of years of abuse from the elements, the serial number plate was missing. I do not know if it came off because it rotted away, or if someone took it off. When I am done with this tractor, I plan to use it with a hay rake, and a No.5 JD Mower, so it is not essential that I need the plate. Recently, I was looking through an old file cabinet, and I located the original bill of sale for the tractor. It has the serial number on it, and from this information I researched the number, and this tractor was built in 1948. After talking to fellow collectors, I was notified that it was possible to get replacement plates made by Deere. If someone could inform me about this process, or a location where I could reach this service, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.
