I'm looking at buying an early styled B in fair running condition. This tractor is missing its serial number plate. Is there a way for me to tell exactly what year it is without the serial number? The price seems fair but should I stay away since it doesnt have the serail number?

Thanks for the replies. Even the tractor seems like a good buy i think i'm going to pass on it. Seems the serial tag is important.

If you just want a tractor to play with, its fine. But you won't get the money you would without it.

Look at the tractor and answer these questions.

Shields over brake drums?
Front end suport, angle steel or cast iron?
What wheels, cast w/ or w/o removable hubs?
4 speed or 6 speed trans?
slant dash?
roller on drawbar?
Presurized radiator?
How many holes in the pan seat?
many more i can ask. Email me. I will try to get close. But like the other guy said. Even if you know the year, it won't we worth much without the serial number tag.

No good way,If you are just going to use, or parade it will not make any difference. May be a problem when you go to sell. I have heard that about $200 substraction for no S/N is a good place to start. I tend to stay away from tractors with no S/N, for another reason, hard to trace ownership. Russ
