On a John Deere M tractor, when you are sitting in the seat lookin down, right in front of you is the gear shift, a little to the left and back is a horizontal gear shift that I believe is the PTO, maybe?? My main question is, what is the other horizontal lever behind that one???? Thanks for any info, and if anyone knows of any good websites that give info on this tractor I would appreciate it!

This engaged the belt pulley, as with the PTO, had to use the tractor transmission and clutch.

One lever operates the PTO the other operates a pulley next to the PTO. The pulley can take a belt upto about 8" wide. This is used to operate sawmill/woodsaw and the like. Both levers operates from the clutch. At least that is the way our "M" works. Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the info. I have several farmalls, some of their pulleys work when the pto is in gear and others you have to shift separately, but I thought that little tractor would be all one thing; I haven't got it running yet to figure out what it was. Thanks
