I recently heard of a widow who was needing to sell her late husband's old John Deeres notably 1939 B, an unstyled A which appears to be a basket case, and a 1951 A. I went to look at the '51 A yesterday and it looks very sharp, the metal is all staight and free of rust and the paint even though it appears to be original, really looks good.
On the down side though, she said it ran before her husbands health failed about five years ago but hasn't been started since. It's missing the generator, for some reason the gas line has disconnected at the carb, the throttle and shutter levers have been broke off and have to be operated below the pedestal. No battery and the rubber is poor to fair.
She told me she wasn't sure what to ask for it but she needed money and was hoping to get about $2000.00 for it and asked if I thought it was a fair price. I'd probably pay that if I thought she was in the ball park but I think two grand is just a little steep for a tractor that I hadn't heard run yet. What do you guys think?

Jim,
I think that is at least twice as much as it is worth.

Jim, I don't know where you are located, but down here in Texas, the "A" as you describe it would sell for $300. tops.

Does it have fenders? otherwise I think $2000 is a little high, provided it will run.

Thanks for responding fellas. As to your questions, I'm located in Missouri about fifty miles west of St. Louis and no, it doesn't have fenders and BTW the head lamps and tail lights are also absent.
