Gasket making and torque values (on the rockshaft housing)

I decided rather than go to John Deere to order a gasket to attach the rockshaft cylinder to the housing, I'll just make one. Is there a special gasket material I should use since there is a lot of pressure? What torque should I use to attach this cylinder and then what torque should I use to bolt the housing to the back of the tractor?

Thanks for the help, Jon

have worked on several of these, the material is a tough type paper, however if you could use high pressure material would be better. Also don't put anytype sealer as this will allow gasket to creep. Also there is a later type o gasket for the piston rather than a leather type. You may have to change the piston.

I am having a related problem on a 50 A. I use a pull type brush hog on it and after about 4 hours of use, I have to add PTO fluid because it is getting into the transmission. Is it likely to be the rockshaft cylinder gasket or is it more likely to be the pto shaft seal or some other problem?

Jerry, because you are loosing oil it is probably the cylinder gasket. If you were gaining trans oil in the pto it would probably be the shaft seal. Does the rockshaft creep down, if it does then it points to the gasket even more. In either case I would put them both in including the piston seal as long as you have it apart.
