I am putting my rockshaft assembly back on My '41 A and there are springs in the housing surrounding the rockshafts themselves. Are these springs supposed to put downward pressure on the implement or lifting pressure? The one on the A didn't have spring tension either way but another one I have has downward pressure. Which way is is supposed to be? I'm putting her back together tomorrow.

Thanks, Jon

Hi Jon, How you been? That spring is for down pressure to put it in the down position when nothing is mounted.

Hey DP! Pretty good. I was hoping to get this job done before it got hot but tomorrow is supposed to be close to 100. I have to order the gasket on the rockshaft cylinder and that may take a couple of days.

I'm doing great. I start school tomorrow down at WSU. Two classes, once a week. I can't wait to have this "A" back together and put her to work.

What have you been up to this summer? I went to Goessel for the tractor pull. It was great! JDs and M-Ms put the rest to shame.

Jon

Jon, the springs are supposed to give down pressure to help lower the implement. Usually the weight of the implement being raised will make the rockshaft lower itself. This is why in later production tractors the spring was eliminated. Hope this helps. Mike

Thanks Mike. Should I get the springs hooked up to the shafts or just forget it? Most everything I have seems to weigh enough without downward pressure.

Jon
