I have been looking for a tester to test the compression in my B and nobody has one that will fit. Pep Boys, Auto Zone and finally Sears failed me as the ones they had were for regular cars and wouldn't fit the large spark plug hole the B has. I even looked for an adapter with the same results. So, Where can I find one of these?

Don,
I stopped at our Sears store this morning. They had 3 of the 92171 Compression testers (14 and 18 mm with O-rings) on the shelf. Does your B have the 7/8" plugs? If so then this needs an adapter. The gauge itself has a standard female quick connect air fitting (fits the male air hose on my compressor. The power and hand tool catalog list a heavy duty kit on page 73 for $115. The online catalog lists 92171 as 00902171000 at 24.99 same as in the store. Link go to tools and search on compression.

I went to Sears yesterday and they did not have ANY. The tool guy said they did not carry them and I couldn't find one in their tool catalog. Thanks

Don, I have an old snap-on set with the correct adapter. You can always make one from an old spark plug.

Hey, you're supposed to be on the other board helping me with my bearings! OK, I'm game. How do I make one from an old spark plug? Thanks for your help!

Don, take an old spark plug & break the porcelin & tip out of it then weld or braze a fitting on that mates with your compression tester. Or you might call John R. Brillman 610-2529828 (6-10 eastern time) & buy a spark plug adapter to adapt new style plugs to the old J.D. thread pattern, then you can use a modern compression tester. I think he only gets a few dollars for the adapter(s).
