Would there be a major loss of power to install 50 gas pistons in a 50 LPG engine given the differences in compression ratios??

In the long term you will be pleased that the proper LP pistons were located & used. A LP tractor needing pistons & a re-bore is less common due to the clean combustion with fewer wear causing byproducts. Any other history with this tractor? Possibly the installation of sleeves may restore bore clearance if the rings lands & piston pins are not worn out of spec.

I have two 50's, one LP, one gas, was trying to make one from two since the block was bursted on LP. During disassembly I discovered the gas had been bored .045" oversize thus rendering my LP pistons un-useable with out sleeving gas block or locating a standard bore block.

I have done just the reverse in putting LP pistons in a gas tractor. Didn't like the result and had too much compression, removed and put stock. Probably if you're going to run LP you would have to have LP pistons. If you're just running gas use the gas pistons.
