I can get a 2510 JD, has wide front, decent tires 3pt, over all apperence so-so, has 4cyl diesel, that used oil, made some noise and quit. been setting for a long time. Was wondering what trans and rear end, hyd, was like in them, does the engine have all four sleeves together like the early fours, or does it have individual sleeves. What is the hp, didn't find a ser# plate, what was the years made. I will be away from the comp for a few days, so thanks in advance for any info.

Harold, The 2510 John Deere tractor was built from 1966 through 1968. It was available with a gas or diesel engine and a 8 speed Syncrorange or 8 speed Power Shift Transmission. The gas engine was a 180 cubic inch displacement and the diesel was a 202,. These same engines were later used in the 2020. The engines were new to the agriculture tractor at the time the 2510 was introduced and was not the same engine as used in older models. They are an wet sleeve engine with independent liners. The 2510 was rated between 52 and 55 HP depending on what engine and transmission the tractor was equipped with. They are many later model engines that are not hard to find that will fit in place of the originals with little to no alteration. The 202 engine was later replaced with the 219 which was later replaced with the 239. These engine and others will all fit in place of either of the two original engines. I have repowered many of these little tractors over the years and they are a sweet little tractor. The last one I repowered was a 2510 Power Shift and I installed a 276 engine from a 2640 in it. It made a real nice tractor. The 202 was the early design that all these engines were based off of. The liner packing setup on the 180 and 202 sleeves was not the best set up. They were more prone to electrolysis and leak water into the oil. All the later replacement engines were changed in this area. Don't let the engine scare you away from buying it if the price is right as there is many option to repair. Good Luck, Dave W.

Thanks WTW, and John, i found some info in another area and it all compaires to what you guys say. The price of this tractor depends on the amount of damage to the engine. I haul it home, tear it down assest amount of damage, and we go from there. I'm, new to the later JDs, have always worked on the 2 cyl. but thought this looked like somthing I'd be interested in, hp is abought right for my hay orperation. Should be an all round handy tractor. Again thanks for the info.

Tim,

Am running a JD 146 loader on my 2510 wide front. It works well, and seems not to be oversized for the tractors front end.
