Clooney or others; I have the left side plate off, removed the nut and set bolt and removed the spring, the arm wont lift off (this is a 51 A). The shaft wants to move with with the arm, not letting the arm lift off. Is it threaded on top? Do I have to pull the fuel tanks to lift that out? It does not appear possible to get the plate behind the magneto drive coupler past that shaft. As you may have guessed, the gov. is still on the tractor. I really need some advice. Thanks Bob

Bob, you will have to remove the 2 screws that hold the fork to the shaft & then possibly lift the arm & shaft as a unit. If not you might need a little heat on the arm & then hold the fork inside the governor & twist the lever back & forth on the shaft while you try to remove it. If it it turns out to be a big problem you might be way ahead to just pull the governor (be careful of the governor to case gasket as I think it isn't available from Deere anymore) & work on it off tractor. You might try just reaching in & seperating the two thrust washers & the feel for the little balls with your finger, if you can get a finger in there you should be able to feel them.

NO. The govener gasket is NOT available from anyone. I tried for one for my 43A. It would be best to remove the govenor to work on it.

I agree to take the governer off then put it on your work bench and do the job right If I remmember right some bolts were longer then others watch for that and they are right there isn't a gasket avaible.
