I'm tearing down my 41b and not being an expert mechanic, and not knowing very much at all about the horizontal engines. With that said, I've pulled the valve cover off and see the rocker arm assembly the head bolts etc,to take the head off, undo the head bolts and take off the rocker arm asembly, does the head slide off the bolts there? Also how then does one get to the connecting rods and pull the block away from the transmission? I know that these are elementry qustions but any help would be appreciated. I want to tear the enginge down and replace with new rings bearings gaskets etc. Thanks in advance for your help!
Dan

First remove carb, and then disconnect the oil line at the bottom of the head. (use 2 wrenches).Remove head and turn as necessary to remove from the bottom of the frame. Exaust manifold can stay on for now. Remove plate in front of the oil breather to get to the rods, and pay attention to each cap and shims. Push rods and pistons out and check to see what the bore size is. It may not be necessary to remove the block, rather just hone it and replace with new rings of the correct size. Be sure and replace the push rod tubes. This should get you started. Russ

What is used as a push rod tube extractor tool? What tool is used to insert the new tubes without dmaging them?

Before I went too far with this overhaul job, I
would get a repair manual. It will save a lot of
time and possibly a lot of money by saving you
from making mistakes. Also, If you plan on
keeping the tractor, you will have other uses for
the manual in the future. Just my two cents
worth. Have fun!!
