I read you,re reply to me about flashing the field differing from what Gus Causbie said. I haven't done any thing yet. I read you,re instructions but am having a hard time understanding just exactly what to do. I don't know what the arm terminal is, or the arm post. Could I please talk to you on the phone? My # is 519 693 7061 or you can send me you,re # to [email protected]

Ron, on a J.D. generator system the points in the regulator are grounded with the generator not charging & vibrate between ground & open with it charging so if you hook full battery voltage to the F (field terminal) on the regulator or F (field post) on the generator there will be a direct short to ground & a good chance of burning the regulator points up. To properly polorize a J.D. generator (there is nothing in the regulator that needs polorizing) with the regulator still in & hooked up all you have to do is momentarily touch a jumper wire from the (BAT) to the (GEN) terminal at the regulator. If the regulator is removed or if you can't identify the terminals on the regulator all you have to do is run a jumper wire from the F (fld) post (the smaller of the two on the generator) to a GOOD CLEAN ground on the generator case or frame then momentarily touch a wire from the NON-GROUNDED post on the battery to the A (ARM) (the larger of the two)post on the generator, at this time you should see a small spark & it is polorized.
